Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has implemented new noise reduction measures aimed at minimizing the impact of night flights on surrounding communities. The initiative, which began in June 2024, includes stricter flight path management and the introduction of quieter aircraft requirements for airlines operating between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

These measures are part of Schiphol’s ongoing efforts to address concerns from local residents and comply with Dutch government regulations on environmental sustainability. Airlines are now required to use aircraft that meet the latest noise standards, and certain flight paths have been adjusted to avoid densely populated areas during nighttime operations.

The airport authority has also increased monitoring and reporting of noise levels, working closely with airlines and air traffic control to ensure compliance. Schiphol’s approach reflects a broader trend among European airports to balance operational needs with community well-being and environmental stewardship.
