The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced progress in its Mobile Clearance initiative designed to enhance departure clearance processes for general aviation and business aviation pilots.
Starting July 23, 2026, pilots using ForeFlight and Garmin applications can request IFR departure clearances digitally, improving efficiency and convenience in flight operations.
This summer, the FAA is expanding evaluation efforts for Mobile Clearance, and beginning in August, pilots will also be able to cancel IFR clearances through these digital platforms.
